One of the natural, conspicuous differences between the two sexes (yes, there are only two) is that men of most genetic strains have facial hair. There are some Asians and native Americans that simply do not have facial hair, but most men have facial hair of some kind. Barring these normal genetic constraints I hold that any social mores that decry beards are inherently flawed or outright wrong.
A man should have a beard. Masculinity has many dimensions, but a beard is one of them. To artificially remove it is silly and wrong. Whatever the pattern or volume or coverage, if you would be a man have a beard.
